Saturday morning brought ideal conditions playing conditions at the Lisbon Central School baseball and softball diamonds for NAC West action against Hermon-DeKalb.
Pitchers on both teams showed their appreciation.
In baseball Lisbon senior Lucas Gravlin struck out 16 in a three-hitter in a 10-2 victory and the softball contest produce saw two young windmillers combined for 22 strikeouts.
H-D freshman Maya Green struck out 10 as the Green Demons overcame 12 strikeouts by Lisbon eighth grader Adia Richards to post a 5-3 victory.
In a NAC West doubleheader Harrisville swept Clifton-Fine 26-0 and 31-6 and in action the Mudville Complex in Herkimer Heuvelton dropped a 7-3 decison to Duanesburg and was shut out by Batavia Notre Dame 18-0.
Madrid-Waddington also played at Mudville on Saturday dropping a 21-1 decision to Duanesburg and 7-0 to Batavia, ND.
BASEBALL
Lisbon 10 - H-D 2: Lucas Gravlin struck out 16 in a 3 hitter where he allowed just one earned run and delivered two doubles and a single at the plate. Isaiah White connected for an RBI double, Connor Flack singled with two RBIs, Blanked Woods also drove in two runs, Noah O’Leary singled with two RBIs and Coby Mills singled.
“Lucas really had good breaking stuff today and had a low pitch count. We are getting better as our young guys are getting better at-bats,” said Lisbon Coach Dave Gravlin.
“We had twos out today and guys stepped in did well.”
Gavin Walrath doubled for H-D, Noah McDonald, who pitched four solid innings, stroked an RBI single and Caleb Murcray singled.
SOFTBALL
Maya Green, who walked only one, allowed just two baserunners blanking Lisbon over the last three innings and the Demons broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the fifth inning and one in the seventh.
H-D Coach Bob Bice considered it a break-through effort for his team which did not make an error for a second straight game.
“We have been in some games against some very good teams and today we got the kind of win we have been looking for. Maya Green did a great job and we got key hits against a very good pitcher in Adia Richardson.
Ava Besaw’s singled and scored along with Hailey Brabant in the fifth inning keyed the fifth inning scoring and Green singled and scored on an error in the seventh inning. Besaw singled twice and Bailey Wright and Emrie VanBrocklin each singled.
Gabby Richardson singled and doubled for Lisbon, Adia Richards doubled, Ava Bouchey singled twice, Avery Blair singled and scored twice and Averee Bouchey and Rylea Kelley singled.
“It was a good game and both pitchers threw well. We just couldn’t get anything going in the late innings offensively,” said Lisbon Coach Dick Marcellus after the Knights dropped a second straight close game.
Morristown 26 - E-K 10: The visiting Cougars came out swinging and finding the holes as they scored 10 runs on six hits in the top of the first inning. The Rockets answered by coming out swinging and finding holes scoring 14 runs in the bottom of the first and continued throughout the game. Pitcher Makia Green and the Rocket defense weathered the turbulence of the first inning and allowed just two hits the rest of the way as Coach Hannah Thornhill’s team retained a share of first place heading into games against fellow co-leader Harrisville on Monday and Tuesday.
Hunter Simmons (2 doubles, 2 singles) doubled and singled and drove in five runs in the first inning and Raelee Downs drove in four runs in the inning. Issy Woodcock singled, doubled and tripled, Addie Graveline rapped a double and two singles, Scarlett Ritchie singled and drive in four runs, Makia Green crushed a three-run homerun, Jaz Carpenter doubled and singled, Naveah King singled, Melody George singled and Olivia Rice doubled.
Kiana Hogle doubled and singled for E-K and Lilly Lottie, Sam Lottie, Adryonna Rider and Clara Heller singled.
Harrisville 26 - C-F 0: Lila Stephenson struck out seven in her second no-hitter of the season and McKenna Rose rapped three triples and double to lead the Pirates’ offense which also included two doubles by McKenna Peabody and three singles by Ava Bearor.
Harrisville 38 - C-F 1: Ava Bearor pitched a two-hitter and Avery Chartrand hit for the cyle with a homerun, a triple, a double and a single and added a second triple to lead the offense.
“I have never had a player hit for the cycle until today,” said Coach Rick Chartrand who is also Avery’s proud grandfather.
Jaylin Fayette homered and doubled, Hailey Meagher tripled and stroked two singles, McKenna Rose singled four times and Peyton Henry singled three times.
Duanesburg 7 - Heuvelton 3: Duanesburg prevail in a duel of late inning scoring which saw the winners score five times in the sixth and HCS tally three in the sixth and one in the seventh. Winning pitcher Allison Mienaltowski and Shannon Zink doubled and singled for the Eagles surviving a triple and two singles by Carley Simmons, two singles by Addison Havens and a double by HCS hurler Casity Johnson who struck out seven and walked three.
Mikayla Ritchie, Hailey Montenegro and Miah Scott singled.
Batavia ND 18 - HCS 0: Lorretta Sorochty pitched a two hitter for the Irish and Trelew and Fallette each singled three times. Chasity Johnson and Addison Havens singled for the Heuvelton hits.
